Dr Raj Selvarajan introduced Australia’s first scalpel-free vasectomy clinic in Mackay in 2014, establishing the region’s first dedicated scalpel free vasectomy services.
We provide the advanced and refined Scalpel Free Vasectomy service in modern medical settings, designed to offer comfort, privacy, and efficiency to men considering permanent contraception.
Led by Dr Raj Selvarajan, a highly experienced Doctor with more than over 10,000 scalpel free vasectomies performed, our Vasectomy Mackay facilities offer the scalpel-free vasectomy technique — that avoids the use of stitches or clips.
We offer a single-visit service, meaning both the consultation and procedure are carried out on the same day, reducing the need for multiple appointments and limiting disruption to your schedule.
Private Health Insurance options are valid and available only in Day Hospital Settings and can not be used in community GP clinics.
Patients with private health insurance may choose to have their procedure at either Mackay Specialist Day Hospital or Ooralea Clinic.
For patients without private health insurance, the Ooralea Clinic offers an alternative option with the same standard of care and clinical service.
Both locations are staffed by the same vasectomy team and our aim is to provide excellent patient-centred care.
A GP referral is not required, though we welcome referrals from your Doctor (especially, if you have any existing medical conditions).

Upon arrival, patients are welcomed by our friendly receptionist and guided through a thorough consultation with Dr Selvarajan. This is an opportunity to ask questions, understand the procedure in full, and ensure you are comfortable and confident in your decision. We offer an oral sedation medication to help you relax prior to the procedure at no extra cost. Patients can not drive home if they had oral sedation. If the procedure was performed without oral sedation, patients may choose to drive home. However, we highly recommend that you have someone to drive you home after the procedure. The vasectomy procedure may take approximately 15 - 20 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia.

Before leaving, you’ll receive comprehensive aftercare instructions along with a sample kit and guidance on when and how to complete the required semen analysis to confirm the success of the procedure. Our team remains available for any follow-up queries or concerns. We understand that deciding to have a vasectomy is a significant and personal choice. We are committed to offering clear information, respectful care, and clinical excellence every step of the way.
All medical procedures involve potential risks and benefits. We encourage patients to carefully consider this information and to seek further medical advice, including from their regular GP, before making a decision
