Led by Dr Raj Selvarajan, a highly experienced Doctor with more than over 10,000 scalpel free vasectomies performed, our Vasectomy Mackay facilities offer a scalpel-free vasectomy technique — that avoids the use of stitches or clips.
We offer a single-visit service, meaning both the consultation and procedure are carried out on the same day, reducing the need for multiple appointments and limiting disruption to your schedule.
Private Health Insurance
Private Health Insurance options are valid and available only in Day Hospital Settings and not in community GP clinics.
Patients with private health insurance may choose to have their procedure at either Mackay Specialist Day Hospital or Ooralea Clinic.
For patients without private health insurance, the Ooralea Clinic offers an alternative option with the same standard of care and clinical service.
Both locations are staffed by the same vasectomy team and aim to provide consistent, patient-centred care.
A GP referral is not required, though we welcome referrals, especially if you have any existing medical conditions.

What to Expect on the Day
Upon arrival, patients are welcomed by our friendly receptionist and guided through a thorough consultation with Dr Selvarajan. This is an opportunity to ask questions, understand the procedure in full, and ensure you are comfortable and confident in your decision. We offer an oral sedation medication to help you relax prior to the procedure at no extra cost. Patients can not drive home if they had oral sedation. If the procedure was performed without oral sedation, patients may choose to drive home. However, we highly recommend that you have someone to drive you home after the procedure. The vasectomy procedure may take approximately 15 - 20 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia.
Aftercare and Support
Before leaving, you’ll receive comprehensive aftercare instructions along with a sample kit and guidance on when and how to complete the required semen analysis to confirm the success of the procedure. Our team remains available for any follow-up queries or concerns. We understand that deciding to have a vasectomy is a significant and personal choice. - Mackay Specialist Day Hospital employs CSD, scrub/scout, anaesthetic and recovery room staff with a vast number of years’ experience between them. The administration team, which includes a dedicated clinical Coder and a Bookings Co-ordinator, provide efficient and timely support.
- In addition, the Scalpel Free Vasectomy Mackay admin staff deal with bookings, enquiry, billings and other administrative tasks.

Patient information
- When you first arrive at the Vasectomy Mackay clinic, please go to the Reception desk and complete any pre-admission and pre-operative assessment forms.
- Your consultation you will be with Dr. Raj and you will be given full information about pre and post procedures and you will have plenty of time to ask any additional questions you may have
- The procedure is done under a local anaesthetic. In addition, you will also be offered a pre-operative medication to relax and to reduce any anxiety that you may experience.

- Plenty of parking is provided at the front and rear of the facilities for patients, along with a convenient pick-up and drop-off point directly outside the front entrance.
- We welcome you to bring your partner to the consultation. Following the procedure, your partner or designated driver can pick you up to return home.
